CAPC

CAPC. February 16, 2010
(Curriculum and Academic Policies Committee)

The Music department proposed adding Music 07: Group Instrumental Lessons to make
available to students who prefer taking… group instrumental lessons. (Individual Rate: $200/
Group Rate: $100.) Concerns are of individual instructor approval and varying levels of
students abilities. CAPC passed the proposal; the Music Department will bring the matter to
Academic Senate for final approval.

The Business Department is looking to offer a General Business Minor to provide for
interested students majoring in (to list a few examples) Art, Graphic Design, Environmental
Studies, Communication, Computer Science, Digital Media, Theology: Missions, English,
and Social Work. The proposal stated no new courses would be introduced, none would be
deleted, and no staffing issues will be created. Proposal was passed by CAPC, and also awaits
approval by Academic Senate.
The Education Department recommends expanding its current TESL (Teaching English as a
Second Language) endorsement to two distinct tracks: domestic and international. The intent
is to more effectively prepare its students seeking TESL certification according to their
desired opportunities, as well as to better serve learners by creating a more specific
curriculum. EDUC 270 (Comparative and Int’l Education) is the only new course in the
International endorsement, and will be cross-listed as CORE 260-269. CAPC approved the
expansion and passed the proposal, again, to Academic Senate.

CAPC continued discussion of the Revised Program Review Sub-Committee, regarding the
initial intent of the committee to instill a culture of reflection and critical conversation within
each department.

Next meeting scheduled for March 9, 2010
